THE
DUO
We have been performing together since 1994, and have been married
since 1995. We met while we were both working as solo performers in the
DC area in the club and coffeehouse circuit. We began dating and, while
we didn't really plan to start performing as a duo, we would often sit in
at each other’s gigs. We decided to make a demo, for potential duo gigs,
and ended up making a full length CD, Tocoi Light, that represented both
of our musical visions. We discovered that we were, in fact, musically simpatico
and have played together ever since.
We live in Fredricksburg, VA,
a suburb of Washington DC. Laurie was born in Kentucky, went to Berea College,
lived in Japan for a year, and got her masters degree at Ohio University
in Athens, Ohio. She became a fixture on the vibrant local folk scene there
before moving to DC. Peter was born in New York and has been sliding south
ever since. He discovered the guitar at 18, and that was that.
Laurie's background is in international development studies and
her passion for travel has led us through China and Southeast Asia, India,
Nepal, Japan, Indonesia, East Africa and South America …..just in case anyone
was wondering why we took so long to make a second album!
THE
TRIO
While we are essentially a duo, we often perform as a trio. Our
first call sideman is Kent Ippolito a talented multi-instrumentalist who
adds bass, mandolin, guitar and harmony vocals to our live shows. Kent was
also a prominent player on our second CD, Something Good. Also in our sideman
lineup is Henry Hubbard, who brings upright bass and harmony vocals to the
mix. Henry is also responsible for some beautiful parts on Something Good.
