Melodic Fingerstyle Guitar is a book and CD package by Peter Mealy that explores cross-string techniques for fingerstyle guitar. It contains 13 tunes, ranging from fiddle tunes to jazz, plus many exercises and examples. "Melodic Guitar" refers to an approach to playing melodies on the guitar by playing consecutive melody notes on different strings, rather than on a single string. This technique allows you to acheives a harp-like, legato effect. Melodic Fingerstyle Guitar is similar to crosspicking, but by adding bass notes to melodic phrases, complete solo arrangments can be developed. The tunes in this book employ this concept with "melodic shapes" and "melodic scales" which provide a wealth of raw materials for developing ones own arrangements.
